Recommended Posts

it really is just a glimpse - of the three full days we were there, i spent one in bed with Ms Migraine … well, but at least under the aegis of Her Majesty

next day i was alive again, and we went on an expedition (we used the buslines )

we were at a B&B in Kendal; on our way to the bus i saw this cheekily named dentist office …

then we went on to Levens Hall - due to a misunderstanding we landed not quite at the front door, but managed to get there - the last leg of the march was along this beautiful public footpath right through the wild garlic.

Astrid said "it's like walking though a tub of garlic butter" and it was

Levens Hall is famous for its topiary garden. it's a bit like English Garden meets cubism …

(they had a problem with box blight, hence some brown in the trees …)

i liked the less formal places better, in particular the orchard, with squares of meadow around the trees.
