I read the history of this place when you first told us about it … sad with a happy ending, indeed! Such a gorgeous place …
Goli Posted August 26, 2017 Definitely we are commenting here i loved Heronswood when i first discovered it, not too long after i had moved up here from the Bay Area - twenty years ago. It was a huge disappointment when it was closed and gutted - Burpee sold everything they could make any $$$s off of. And although it was a huge relief when it was the tribe that got the property at auction, they weren't entirely sure what they had bought - i suspect that they just wanted to protect the land. They had reached out for help/suggestions, and i'm not quite sure how/when Dan Hinkley got back involved, but of course that was the real turning point. There were many people who were very fond of Heronswood - i was talking to a lovely lady tribal member who works there, and she told me a complete stranger had HUGGED her, and thanked her (that was after i told her yesterday that a very nice old couple had mentioned they were going to write the tribe a thank-you letter). That had evidently startled her at the time, but very pleasantly so. They really did NOT know what a reputation Heronswood had had back in the day. So, this has been wonderful for a lot of people. Even for some i am not so fond of myself - i had to laugh when i saw that, after popular demand, Hinkley is going to be giving private tours, at $100 per person, including a box lunch from the casino's event catering business (which handles the weddings that the casino events people also arrange). $70 of the $100 is tax deductible. i'm suspecting the clamoring for private tours emanated from the Infernal Busybody Idiots' Clownhouse and the Indianola Garden Club - which are intertwined. Anyway, GOOD that they drop some $$s where they will actually do some good Anyway, today i'm picking up my old friend from the Rael & Letson office days at the ferry, and we are going out to Heronswood - she's a real plant person, so i think she will really appreciate it. And i am NOT taking the camera
Goli Posted August 27, 2017 i wanted to really show off the place to my friend, without distracting myself - she provided all the distraction trying to take pics with her phone that that worked - the light was so bright she couldn't see what was on the screen. i WAS sorry later, that i didn't have the camera, at another place. Which i may go back to. WITH the camera
