there was lilac everywhere; we even woke up to the scent of it because there were bushes in the backyard of the house where we were staying.

these sparrows sure had a stylish nest  and they were not the only ones; the castle was enveloped in a cloud of chatter.

we braved the crowds and walked along Unter den Linden to the Brandenburg Gate.

there was a girl in red standing like a statue, moving only when you dropped her a coin - then she unfolded her fan and bowed. (Miguel caught that)

we spent some time at the holocaust memorial. it is this huge field of concrete blocks in different heights, all of them not fully aligned. they form a grid of narrow alleys you can walk through, and it is quite disturbing how it makes you feel disconnected after a short while. you can see people only if they are in the same narrow walkway, and then only for a moment when they cross it at a distance ... the ground is undulating, too, so your senses are being fooled all the time.

i found it really impressive.

after lunch in the sun we proceeded to the Reichstag and the new government quarter.

there are signs and memorials everywhere, reminding of darker times. this one is for the members of the german parlament murdered by the Nazis.
